System Restore causing lockups....
I keep getting system-lockups for no apparent reason. The problem is that at random times ALL of my active programs freeze completely. There is no way of using CTRL-ALT-DEL to shut down the application that caused the lock-up, because EVERYTHING except the mousepointer freezes. !

system lockups in -current - during boot.
And there are system lockups without Texstar. So go back to MDK9.1. I know what beta means. Still the system should be robust enough so that a few lines of code couldn't bring it down. I would ask you to tell me why a BSOD will grind Windoze to a halt... but I'll not bother. Read it again and see if you get it.

Random system lockups - pointers on what to try next?
I'd imagine that zone-time would be particularly volatile because textures are getting swapped in. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q253912 I'd say it's pretty likely this is causing the lockups this guy's seeing, assuming heat issues aren't the culprit. Microsoft says it causes out-of-

OpenVMS Alpha V7.3 - system lockups
Typically about 20 users will be on the system at any one time. About 2 or 3 times a week the system will completely freeze up. This always happens at the end of the working day, though not at *exactly* the same time. It's usually sometime between 4.45pm and 5.00pm. All terminals lock, num/caps lights on the

Or does the system reclaim all or part of it back when it is needed for other stuff? Filesystem code rarely gets the system into such a state that it feels obliged to make high-pitched beeping noises. On the other hand, I /have/ seen hardware problems freeze a machine without any errors, cause machines to go beep and all sorts of other exciting things. Bad memory tends to cause panics,

IMHO if other programs behave normally on a system (incl. programs that are heavy on resources) CW should do that too. I would, for example not try to run CW 2.x with less than 32M memory. It can run on 16, but it creates endless problems, lockups and GPF's. I'd recommend 64M. I guess we are stretching CW a bit as
